The Black Album: 2003Īnother Classic Album, that can easily be moved up in the list. From start to finish the album is flawless as it’s boom-bap sound, storytelling, flow, and wordplay makes it one of the most complete albums to ever be released in any genre. “Brooklyn’s Finest” featuring The Notorious B.I.G is one of the best collab songs of all-time, and the following track “Dead Presidents II” is one of the best rap songs of all-time. “Can’t Knock the Hustle” is one of the best intro tracks ever, and the album seems to only improve as you go from track to track. It’s one of the 5 best debut Rap Albums of all time, and in the conversation for being one of the 5-10 best rap albums ever. Released in the “Golden Age of Hip Hop”, it’s on par with any rap album to be released both in that time and all time.

If the The Blueprint is 1, Reasonable Doubt is 1A when ranking Jay Z’s discography. The album’s impact and content are self-explanatory, as the album pioneered Jay Z into becoming everything that he has today. The album silenced any potential critics about his standing in rap. When Jay Z released the album his reign on rap was being questioned as he was feuding with other top rappers such as Jadakiss, Prodigy, and Nas. If you want the radio hits “Izzo (H.O.V.A)”, “Girls, Girls, Girls”, and “Song Cry” all provide that as well. The album was heavily dictated by its samples as it has 11 samples in its 13 songs. The album is filled with versatility, it has the lyrical assaults such as “Takeover”, “U Don’t Know”, “Heart of The City”, “Never Change”, “Momma Loves Me”, and “Renegade” which feature him and Eminem at the peak of their powers. Jay Z’s has always had fantastic production, but The Blueprint offered a unique sound that is different from any other Jay Z album.

This may be met with criticism but ultimately the production from Kanye West was the deciding factor for me ranking The Blueprint number 1 on Jay-Z’s discography. His catalogue, influence, and impact speak for itself as he’s undeniably cemented himself as one of the best artists of any genre after 13 Solo Studio Albums. Here is his entire discography of solo albums ranked: Arguably the Greatest Rapper of All-Time Sean Carter from Marcy Projects, Brooklyn was born 49 years ago today.
